On gravelly bank. All plants with brittle horizontal-ascending rootstocks and rather copiously bulbiferous along the rhizomes; in all, the ovary nearly submerged in a lobed disc and at anthesis over 1/2 inferior; petals either greenish-white, or more pure white and possibly larger than the greenish-white phase, in the white petalled form, especially, usually quickly aging to purple and the filaments (all subulate) and fruits also turning to purple; anthers golden-orange on the greenish-white petalled plants, more nearly greenish-yellow on the white petalled ones; plants in general of the two types and each quite distinctive, but they intergrade rather completely, all with elongate, but corymbose-branched (flattopped) inflorescences. Phenology: Flowers & Fruits.
