Open bare sand in from decomposing sandstone. Soil with reddish patches. NE-facing 35° NE-facing slope, Salix alaxensis wet drainage slope, nivean, dominated by Boykinia richardsonii, Dryas alaskensis, and Geum glaciale. Revised with the notes "the following characters indicate this species (S. polaris) rather than S. arctophila: leaves not glaucous abaxially, ovaries hairly, styles 0.75 mm, stipes ca. 0.75 mm, nectaries loner than stipes, and forming rhizomatous mats. Local. Previously identified as Salix arctophila. Previously identified by B.A. Bennett, July 2008. 9 duplicates (CAN).
