Flowing ditch, at water's edge, outside of vineyard, with Rosa sp., Bromus inermis. Erect small trees 4-5 m tall, chopped at base; new growth with dense cottony hairs, leaves becoming glabrous; rhizomatous patch covering 44 paces along ditch on both sides of the water; a hybrid between Populus alba x Populus grandidentata, probably arising from cultivated tree fragments that ended up in the ditch because it seems unlikely to have been planted in a ditch area that needs to be kept clear of trees.
