Bark gray, furrowed. Phenology: Fruits.

Alaska: 15 miles southeast of Homer, Halibut Cove, on south shore of Kachemak Bay. Elev. 500 ft.
Thickets of Alnus with scattered trees of Populus. Male and female flowers from ground; 60-80 feet high; DBH 1.5-2.5 feet. Bark gray, thick, rough, with deep furrows and long ridges. Phenology: Fertile.

Cleared forest of Picea sitchensis. Scattered; 25-40 feet tall; DBH 6-18 inches. Bark gray, becoming rough, furrowed. Phenology: Fruits.
