Above road, alongside old roadbed, on east-facing slope. Associated with Arctostaphylos, Campanula prenanthoides, Ceanothus integerrimus, Lonicera, Lotus purshiana, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Quercus, Rubus, and Xerophyllum tenax. Scarce perennial, +/- erect, up to 14 in. tall, woody above base. Leaves linear-lanceolate to elliptic. Stems, leaves, and fruits hairy. Corolla +/- glabrous. Dioecious with males and females in equal ratio (50 : 50); males with more linear leaves. This plant female. Phenology: Fruits.
