Along streamlet cutting across upper switchbacks, open conifer forest on N-facing slope, serpentine substrate with Dodecatheon, Sanguisorba, Aquilegia, Bistorta. Locally common (including numerous seedlings) where trail crosses streamlet, moist ground in partial shade, caudex simple to few-branched, stems prostrate where open, +/- ascending in dense growth, petals lacking orange basal patch; often growing with (and sometimes hybridizing (22342) with) P. indiges (mostly not yet in bloom).
