Moist thicket, weedy area, with Populus balsamifera, Crataegus monogyna; C. douglasii. 3 meters tall bird-sown adventive tree; 105 meters from ornamental planting; nearly thornless; thorns 14 - 27 millimeters; twigs brown; flowers white; musty odor; 16 millimeters in diameter; cupped petals 6 X 8 millimeters wide; fresh anthers pink to red-purple; 20 - 21 stamens, white filaments; (2 - 3) 4 - 5 styles; [fruit red, 8 - 9 x 10 - 11 millimeter w in September]. Phenology: Flowers.
