On rocky south slope, where very dry, with Purshia tridentata, Artemisia tridentata, Paeonia brownii, Eriogonum compositum, and Ribes cereum, the Artemisia just coming into bloom the Purshia past, the Eriogonum in full flower, but the Delphinium mostly still in bud. Plants from large multibranched fibrous roots; stems many, fistulose; racemes "spike-like", the pedicels strictly ascending; sepals and petals more lilac than purple or blue, not very deeply colored, the sepals cupped forward, cucullate at tip; lower petals merely notched, not really bifid; spur about equal to the upper sepal blade.
