On grassy hills with scattered yellow pines; plants in deep dry soil. Showing great variation in size and also in flower size and color, but all semi-glandular-hairy and all from faucicled, fleshy roots and the roots readily broken off; sepals deep blue to true purple, the spur 1 1/5 times as long as the blade of the upper sepal; lower petals similar in color to the sepals, upper ones more nearly light blue with purple markings; lower petals deeply bifid, the sinus closed.
