Fine-gravelly soil on ridge and east-facing slope; at the edge of Abies lasiocarpa/Pinus albicaulis subalpine forest with Juncus parryi, Xerophyllum tenax, and on the barren ridge with Phyllodoce empetrifromis and Phlox diffusa. Common; stems mostly loosely repent and forming loose mats up to ca. [circa] 0.3 meters broad; leaves mostly succulent, puberulent, becoming glabrous and strongly reflexed in age, the apex obtuse to acute; inflorescence umbellate, involucrate, the flowers mostly 4-5; corolla salverform, mostly 6-10 millimeters long, pink to magenta, the limb about 7 millimeters broad.
