Growing in a vernal pool with clayey soil derived in part from chert. Associated taxa: Psilocarphus tenellus, Plagiobothrys leptocladus, Limosella Aquatica. Nearly all other vernal pools on the Columbia Plateau contain soil lacking a chert content. This subspecies is known only from the vernal pools in central Lincoln County.
