Lee side of shifting sand dune between beach and saltmarsh, covered in Ammophila arenaria. Flowering stems ca 2.2 meters tall, inflorescence plume-like, ca 5-6 dm long, off-white; sheaths pubescent on sterile shoot leaves; leaf blades nearly flat with slightly channeled midvein, ca 1 cm wide, margins scabrous; single cespitose plant with 4 flowering stems and numerous sterile shoots, forming a large clump, adventive on sand dune well away from any houses or source plants.
