Ca 200 ft above upper timberline of Pinus albicaulis, Abies lasiocarpa, and Pinus flexilis. Soil thin, very rocky (large flat plates) and derived from a gray limestone. With Silene repens, Anemone multifida, Leucopoa kingii, Festuca ovina, Potentilla glandulosa. Occasional. Lvs all simple; bracts 5-lobed, bright red; calyx pale green below, reddish above, glandular very nearly equally cleft, the teeth acute and ca 3-4 mm long; corolla greenish-yellow with long, slender beak with reddish on the abaxial above the lower lip. Phenology: Flowers.
