Steep, unstable, east-facing gravelly slope of lateral moraine densely vegetated with leaves of arnica latifolia and patches of saplings, Chamerion angustifolium and salix. Plants green to dull green; found under shrubs and taller herbaceous vegetation or in areas of open, low herbaceous cover; frequent, with B. montanum, B. pinnatum.

Alpine ridge line; on west-facing slope just below crest; dominated by low-turf-like vegetation of Luetkea pectinata, Phlox diffusa, Carex, Lupinus. Plants green, not strongly glaucous; common here, with B. lanceolatum subsp. lanceolatum (red genotype) and B. pinnatum.
