Base of huge concrete and blacktop rubble pile, in dusty silty soil with Phalaris arundinacea, Vicia cracca. Ca. 30 flowering plants with pale whitish petals, and several more small first year plants; plants apparently devoid of any glands, mostly covered with white curved upward-directed hairs; no basal turions; seeds clearly papillose in lines under a microscope.

Sand landfill area south of Fraser River dyke, in preload in preparation for construction. In fine mix of clay silt in disturbed piles dredged from the river. Growing with Epilobium ciliatum subsp. ciliatum. Plants eglandular; velvety hairy; with pale pinkish white flowers; perhaps 100+ plants.

Garden weed in bare open topsoil. Herbage densely and finely pubescent with curved white hairs; seeds crested in pappilose lines; spontaneous in my garden; probably arising from seeds of specimens I collected in the Vancouver area; usually included in Epilobium ciliatum Raf.

Vacant lot, fenced for future construction, in bare finely compacted gravel of graded builing site, with Conyza canadensis, Hypericum perforatum. Taprooted perennial, appearing annual, with short curved white hairs throughout esp. upward, loosely compacted leafy basal buds, long few-branched leafy bracted inflorescence. Noted from several often dry and dusty sites in Greater Vancouver over the years. Unlike any native species, probably introduced from California. Often lumped with Epilobium ciliatum, but seems distinct in its hairiness at least. 100+ plants.

Fine gravel depressions, in cleared area with Epilobium ciliatum (usual form), E. brachycarpum, Polygonum arenastrum, Echinochloa crus-galli. Appears almost annual, but prob. depauperate plants., Petals white; capsules erect; lvs hairy; seeds with longitudinal bumpy crests.
