Yukon Territory: Ogilvie Mountains. Elev. 4548'

This is the lowest level of Claytonia on the mountain I'd climbed last year, much to my surprise, there were a number of plants blooming in the area, including mountain avens, Parrya, poppies, moss campion, Diapensia and bladder campion. More C.ogilviensis at 65°01.162N 138°14.78W elev.4838 accurate to 41'. Even after taking this reading I found yet more C.ogilviensis growing but did not take a GPS on them. They were probably as high as 4900'. I did climb to the top of this hill then walked back down along the saddle in the direction I'd come from for about 1/2 km then came down the hill diagonally. While coming down, I found yet more C.ogilviensis on the side. This is the third location I've found them. They were growing at the same treacherous 60° slope and in the same slatey rock. 65°01.857N 138°15.280W elev. 4295' accurate to 25'. This is probably redundant, but I took another reading a short distance over where there were at least a further 20 plants 65°01.882N 138°15.298W. This second colong was at least 1/2 km or so from the colony on the mountain. There is a third location for C.ogilviensis, which we found last year, but it is at least 1/2 km further down the valley and I did not go there this summer to take a GPS on them. But I would like to do this maybe next year. Anne Saunders, Dawson City August 17, 2006. EOID 1251. GPS accurate to 32'. . 1 duplicate.
