Sidalcea oregana (Nutt. ex Torr. & A. Gray) Gray var. ciliata C.L. Hitchc. ined.Remarks: Could this be Sidalcea ssp. oregana var. calva, endemic to the Wenatchee Mts.? EP
Washington: Chelan County: N margin of Camas Land, about 12 miles SE of Cashmere.
Some plants from meadow on rather dry soil under yellow pines. Also at edge of water. Plants under pines nearly all single-stemmed from taproots. Other extreme includes plants in multi-stemmed clumps, these with short thick rootstalks, bearing many buds. As plants spread older rootstalks tend to die, thereby producing clumps of individual plants; thus, although rootstalks are present, they are much shorter and thicker than in such species as S. virginata. From practically glabrous to sparsely stellate (hairs 2-5 rayed). Stems somewhat glaucous; corollas bright watermelon pink, flowers of at least 3 types, many more or less cleistogamous and practically without corolla, others small-flowered and perfect. Largest flowered plants. No date given. Plants examined over an area of several hundred feet in diameter, and at intervals of perhaps one mile. Phenology: Flowers.
