Silty soils. Co-dominant canopy of Acer macrophyllum, Pseudotsuga, Quercus garryana. Young tree progeny from nearby very large well-known tree. Many seedlings scattered through forest. A combination of allozyme analysis (C. henryi) and morphological characters (some cupules with more than one nut, lack of scales on parent tree = C. mollissima?) suggests hybrid. Phenology: Flowers.
