Full sun, rocky terrace above west bank of Snake River, with Opuntia, Agropyron spicatum, Plantago patagonica, Poa bulbosa, Panicum, Sporobolus cryptandrus, Grindelia, Erigeron, Physalis, Achillea, Bromus tectorum, Gylcyrrhiza, scattered Celtis. Loosely cespitose from cormose bases; scales 3.1 millimeters, turning reddish-brown; anthers 0.6 millimeters; achenes 2.1 x 1 millimeters wide; bracts ascending-spreading; large vigorous population (more than 500 clumps).
