Dry sand and cobble riverbank near or above high water line, with Cyperus schweinitzii, Cenchrus longispinus, Heterotheca villosa. Anthers 0.7-0.9 mm; spikelets greenish, maturing red-brown, inflorescence congested and headlike, without elongate lateral branches, bracts widely spreading to ascending; stems with hard bulbous bases; plants common on beach and along adjacent roadsides.
