Wet, exposed, silty bar on river bank adjacent to mouth of small stream; water levels influenced by tides; with low, lawn-like cover of Eleocharis, Limosella aquatica, and Mazus pumilus bordered below by mostly bare mud, and bordered on upper side by lush growth of Leerzia oryzoides and Helenium autumnale. Densely tufted annual ca 10 cm high; spikelets purplish, in small, loose clusters; scales ca 1 mm; achene body ca 0.8 mm; style ca 0.3 mm, stigmas ca 0.3 mm; plants frequent in mostly bare silt bordering denser vegetation.
