Basalt parent substrate, surface thick clayey-mud substrate. Moist montane meadow. Assoc.: Camassia quamash, Dactylis glomerata, and Leymus cinereus. Hybrid specimens (ca 10) found on median stripe between two nearly pure populations of W. amplexicaulis (yellow ray fls) and W. helianthoides (white ray fls). Large tuberous root, large spatulate leaves. Cream ray fls, golden disc fls. Phenology: Flowers.
