Idaho: Idaho County: Ca. 1.5 miles due N of Big Butte (butte name) and 1 mile W of Thorn Springs Creek on N end of Grangeville Prairie, head of small drainage into Lawyers Canyon. Elev. 3175 ft.

Palouse Prairie remnant surrounded by cultivated fields in Symphoricarpos albus/Festuca idahoensis community; NW aspect, 30 degree slope, silt/loam (loess) soils; two patches on N 1/2 of remnant. Associated species: Geum triflorum, Helianthella uniflora, Crataegus douglasii, Hieracium albiflorum, Agropyron spicatum, Achillea millefolium, Festuca idahoensis, Koeleria cristata, Potentilla gracilis, Rosa spp., Balsamorhiza sagittata. Perennial with stiff, scabrous foliage and yellow radiate heads, 4-7 dm tall, mostly past flowering. Phenology: Flowers.
