Gray knolls in low sagebrush. Fine textured shale-derived soils. Associated species: Artemisia arbuscula subsp. longiloba, Ivesia, Astragalus jejunus, Achnatherum hymenoides. Localized and rare. Phyllaries subequal, stems tomentose, heads 1-2 per inflorescence but mostly single. Phenology: Flowers.
