Mostly open slope, with Cercocarpus and Pseudotsuga menzeisii. Tap rooted perennial; leaves tomentose beneath ± glabrous above, very spiny, leafy-stemmed, tapering spine tip without glutinous ridge, imbricate; arachnoid-villous pubescence especially on the inflorescence. Phenology: Flowers & Fruits.
