Sagebrush steppe over lithosil on gentle, windswept ridge crest, with Artemisia tridentata, Lithophragma tenellum, L. glabrum, Dodecatheon pulchellum, Poa secunda. Leaves green with slight gray tinge, lower surface soft-tomentose but not densely so, blade serrate near base; flowers mostly 2 per scape, involucre soft woolly; young cypselae glabrous; several clumps of plants among sagebrush, growing with B. careyana.
