Steep, north-facing slope immediately below ridgeline, with mix of basalt outcrops and stable, vegetated basalt talus; mesic soil; with Pseudorhoegneria spicata, Eriogonum sphaerocephalum, Amelanchier alnifolia. Flowers bright yellow; leaves erect to arching; plants forming robust clumps, locally common; both parents occur in general vicinity (B. careyana above on ridge crest, B. hookeri nearby on north-slope).
