Gravelly fill between road and new unfinished sidewalk. Rhizomatous, forming patches of leafy stems, not aromatic until crushed, then with a pleasant sage smell; several patches in the area.

Old sand dredgings, with Equisetum hyemale. Rather scentless perennial herb, to 1.5 m tall, with long rhizomes forming monoculture patches; 20 x 20 m patch; several patches in the sandy fill; common on the Fraser River shore to the north; native to Asia and often misidentified as Artemisia vulgaris, but this species rhizomatous.

British Columbia: Greater Vancouver, Richmond. Don Island, east end, in Fraser River, 300 m due northwest of southern tip of Annacis Island. Elev. 8 m

Open meadow in old sand dredgings on alluvial poplar dominated island. Spreading by long rhizomes, forming a circular patch 13 m across, with largest plants to 1.5 m tall along outer fringe and non-flowering short shoots in the interior; several patches in the sandy clearing; seems to be the same species frequent on the river shore and dyke nearby.
