Idaho: Caribou County: Bureau of Land Management Public Domain Land: BLM Parcel on Trail Canyon Rd (Rd 124), 4 mi NW of Soda Springs, 2.5 mi east of jct. with SR 34 and Monsanto plant. Elev. 6500 ft.

Plot is on a steep slope in Trail Canyon west of phosphate plant and directly exposed to plant emissions. Trees are mainly PSME (up to 136 yrs) with open-grown JUCO on the uphill, exposed edge of plot. Stnad density of PSME is moderate, creating a cooling effect inside the stand but with enough light penetration to support a high shrub cover. Lichen community same as SodaSpr1 on JUCO, but PSME were bare except for dark green Lecanora common on bases and lower branches and a Physconia on bark of exposed roots. Two drainages on plot and a creek below, plus moderate canopy cover should provide adequate conditions for east-side lichens. Lichens 5 miles away included normal-sized Bryoria, Usnea and Letvul. This site may be devoid of lichens due to pollution. Slope 56%. Aspect 350°.
