Washington: Mason County: Olympic National Forest, Hoodsport Ranger District. Purposive Survey: WA-029. Gold Creek. From Highway 101 east of Sequim, drive south on Palo Alto Road. After 7.2 miles turn left on Road 28 and go another 5.0 miles, then left on Road 210. Go 1.0 miles to right bend. RP is 15 feet north of road, on west side of creek. Approximately 300 feet east and slightly south from RP (estimated from map). Non-monumented location. Elev. 2795 ft.

Survey area: large moss-and-stonecrop-covered rock outcrops dominate this unit. Few shrubs or herbs exist, except for those on the ridgetop. A lot of dead wood occurs on this unit, both standing and down. Light: partially shaded. Topography: Slope. Aspect: 251 degrees. Slope: 35%. Associated species: Overstory trees: PSME, THPL, ABGR, TSHE. Understory trees: TSHE, PSME, THPL, ABGR. Shrubs: GASH, RHMA, BENE, HODi, ROGY. Herbs: none. Substrate: Found on trunk of of conifer snag. Chaenotheca ferruginea: spores 5-7 micrometers diameter, photobiont=trebouxioid. Reference tree information: RP1: 21.5 inches ABGR, UTME: 496310 meters UTMN: 5309835 meters. Thallus with KOH+ red patches.
