Growing on NW facing granite slope.; NW facing granite cliff, upper subalpine habitat. Dwarfed Tsuga mertensiana, Vaccinium, Cassiope mertensiana, C. stellaris, Leutkea pectinata, Phyllodoce glanduliflora, Fauria crista-gallia. S face of mountain is subalpine, N face is alpine.
