Washington: Pend Oreille County: Colville National Forest, Sullivan Lake Ranger District. Halliday Fen From Metaline Falls, WA drive N on Hwy 31 about 9 miles to the Halliday Fen Trailhead. Park vehicle approx. 200 m north on trail access road, which leaves 3100-180 road immediately east of state road 31, approx 6 mi south of Canadian border. Hike up Halliday Trail approx. 0.9 mi to reach western (lower) end of the Halliday wetland. ¶Location Notes: UTM easting given appears to be 80-100m further east than the actual collection site based on reference to landmarks in aerial imagery. Elev. 2956 ft.

Datum: NAD 27.
Habitat: A large groundwater (seasonal and persistent) rich wetland in a headwater basin; persistent soil wetness due to groundwater discharge was most evident along the southern edge of the wetland, from its NW corner to well up into wooded far SE end. Observations in the field as well as the mapped channel running centrally from SE to NW, lead to the impression that the wetland slopes gradually and consistently from SE to NW. Vegetation features nearly ubiquitous cover of moss and sedge with a variable.¶Associated Species: lichen/moss layer: CAST51, TONI70, HEBL2, PLEL2, AUPA70, herb layer: SCACA, TYPHA, CAUT, ELQU2, PLATA2, PLDI3, UTMI; shrub layer: BEGL, SALIX, ALNUS, Density of Intermixed shrubs. ¶ Substrate: wetland.
