Steep SW-facing subalpine meadow. Gravelly soil, dry to moist. With Fragaria vesca, Artemisia norvegica, Epilobium angustifolium, Rubus parviflorus, Botrychium lunaria, B. lanceolatum, B. pinnatum?, B. hesperium. Uncommon, only a few plants found scattered in patches of Fragaria. Plants in poor shape, many missing sporophores; yellowish green, with yellowish/brownish common stalks; pinnae cupped towards sporophore in life; lower pinnae somewhat basioscopically enlarged and disproportionately larger than upper pinnae. Reproductive state: Fertile. Origin: Native.

South facing subalpine slope, with mix of vegetated talus and very old, open burn now dominated by Xerophyllum tenax, Vaccinium scoparium, Lupinus latifolius, Achillea millefolium, Fragaria virginiana, Castilleja miniata, Carex geyeri, and other herbs; on old volcanic peak. Plants yellow-green to gray-green, common stalk red-tinged; trophophore stalked; ca 70 plants seen, scattered in gravelly patches of soil dominated by Fragaria virginiana, most abundant at GPS point; with B. lanceolatum (red genotype), B. pinnatum, B. minganense. Reproductive state: Spores.
